Our goal is to protect our employees, patients, and community from the seasonal flu. This goal aligns with the recent Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) rule which states that all hospitals and health facilities will develop a plan to immunize all healthcare workers against seasonal influenza. On July 1, 2012, flu vaccines became a necessary mandate by the CDPHE.
This year all employees, volunteers and medical staff are required to receive a flu vaccine. There are only two “approved” exemptions. They are:
- A severe (life-threatening) allergy to eggs or to other components of the influenza vaccine.
- A history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome within six weeks following a pervious dose of influenza vaccine.
In order to receive an exemption from receiving this year’s flu vaccine, you must turn in a Medical Declination form, filled out by your physician, to the Employee Health Coordinator.
Any persons with an “approved” exemption will be required to sign a document stating that he/she will wear a mask at all times (from November 1 through March 31) before entering any patient room, treatment area, or any time they are within six feet of a patient.
We will have special vaccination clinics set up, rounding on units and Employee Health hours to provide many opportunities for staff, volunteers, and physicians to get their flu shots. You will also receive a coupon for a fountain drink when you come for your flu shot and there will be a drawing for prizes for those who get their flu vaccination.
