As you know we have been working diligently for the past year and a half to ensure that we are providing optimal care to our Stroke patients. On Friday, April 19, we invited the Joint Commission to come and assess our processes. They carefully reviewed our charting, policies, employee records, physician records, and spoke with the family member of a Stroke patient. At the end of the day, we were certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission!!!
“This achievement represents an enormous commitment to patients requiring acute stroke and neurology services in the region; fewer than 20% of major US hospitals are stroke certified,” said VP of Operations Kurt Gensert. “Everyone in our organization should stop and celebrate this success. Our hospital has clearly demonstrated compliance with clinical practice guidelines and standardized methods of care consistent with current national best practices in stroke management.”
Due to this honor, PVMC will be able to display The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association Heart-Check mark for our Advanced Certification. Displaying the seal and Heart-Check mark signifies that we are providing the “next generation of stroke or heart failure care,” and will help patients easily identify this facility as one of quality that has surpassed numerous goals in the treatment of stroke.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff at PVMC for helping make this accomplishment a reality,” said ICU Director Michele Siem. “Without everyone’s support, this would not have been possible. One of the things the surveyor mentioned was the sense of this being a team project. She is right. It was a group effort all the way. Thank you all again for helping us make it.”
Way to go PVMC!
Look for a special house-wide
celebration during hospital week!
