If you live in the Brighton area, United Power (UP) is advising you to be aware of a recent scam in the area. The following information was sent to PVMC last week in an effort to warn staff of this potential threat to UP customers:
Three more cases of a United Power imposter have been reported by customers in Brighton. In the most recent attempt, the suspect was a white male about 5’8” tall with fuzzy hair who drove away in a full-sized, red colored Suburban with temporary tags.
In each attempt, the man knocks on the customer’s front door and says he is with United Power. The man asks the homeowner for payment of an outstanding bill and threatens to shut off service if it is not paid on the spot. In most reported cases, the customers are Spanish speaking and the scam attempts have occurred between Bromley Lane and Longs Peak Street, west of Main Street in Brighton.
