On July, 24, just four short years after opening the Prairie Center Campus, PVMC is poised to unwrap another remarkable achievement. While not as visible as a brand new building, in many ways, the “go-live” of eCareNet is more vital and transformational for PVMC than was opening a brand new campus.
In early 2008, just a few short months after “settling” into our brand new hospital campus, PVMC began building its vision for a fully integrated electronic clinical documentation and medical record solution that because of its paperless format features anywhere anytime access. After identifying the limitations of the MS4 IT platform to fully support the patient safety advances of Computerized Physician Order Entry and Clinical Decision Support, PVMC selected the Soarian suite of solutions as its foundation for electronic Clinical Access and Records Exchange Network (eCareNet).
The creative achievements of designing and building the new campus and eCareNet are the foundation of transformation enabling PVMC to be a healthcare provider prepared to meet the challenges of change being thrust on the healthcare industry. PVMC is able to accomplish this kind of foundational transformation because of the unusual ability of the PVMC employee team to “catch a vision” and to enthusiastically dedicate themselves to collaborative achievement of the objective.
On July 24, the “Big Bang” of eCareNet will be experienced at nearly every level that clinical documentation is encountered in the clinical work flow in virtually every PVMC patient care area. That kind of transforming foundational change never comes easy. We should all anticipate moments of frustration and likely what could seem momentary chaos. To assist the eCareNet users through these moments, there will be a host of experts present round the clock, including implementation consultants from Soarian and Quammen, PVMC’s IS clinical analysts, and departmental superusers.
eCareNet is a very complex EMR solution. All users will be challenged to be good adopters of its advanced clinical documentation features. In time, we will feel as comfortable with eCareNet as we are in our new campus. With me, please take a moment in the early going to express appreciation to all the clinical staff who designed eCareNet and the IT experts who built it for their untold hours of dedicated commitment to making PVMC a leader in EMR technology.
