On June 5, 2013, PVMC partnered with the Federal Coordinating Center (FCC) and conducted a disaster drill. The scenario involved an F-5 tornado hitting a large Wyoming town causing the evacuation of their community hospital. Approximately 200 patients were received by the FCC who were then transported to eleven area hospitals. PVMC received 74 patients – 44 by helicopter and 30 more who had driven from Wyoming after their hospital was evacuated.
In addition to the drill, the hospital carried on regular business without disruption or delay in patient care. This was a wonderful test of our surge capacity and taught us many lessons on how we would surge if the situation ever arose.
