After much work, which included unprecedented member outreach, media work and community-wide support, Senate Bill (SB) 17-267 passed the Senate and is on its way to the Governor. As you may know, this bill – in addition to other components designed to support rural Colorado – will move the Hospital Provider Fee (HPF) into a separate enterprise fund. The only thing left is for the bill to be signed by the Governor – the final step needed to negate the proposed cut of $528 million. Avoiding that drastic reduction in Medicaid funding is why the passage of this legislation has been the top priority for the Colorado Hospital Association this session.
One of the things that made this effort successful is that Colorado hospitals were “all in” and speaking with one united voice. The importance of that factor cannot be emphasized enough and for that, we are sincerely grateful. We will keep you posted on the signing by the Governor and next steps with provider fee calculations and payments.
