Recently members of the community gathered with Keene Clinic staff to celebrate the completion of the addition to the Keene Clinic. PVMC’s President John Hicks spoke of the long-standing symbiotic relationship between the two entities. The Clinic’s patients benefit from the availability of specialists at the hospital and the open lines of communication between providers at both facilities.
The construction of the addition was paid for entirely by donations from individuals, local businesses and organizations, including Platte Valley Medical Center. More exam and treatment rooms, laboratory and office space and a larger reception area allow for more efficient and effective operation of the Clinic. As the local population has been steadily increasing, the Clinic added more providers to meet the needs of new patients.
Originally it was thought that work would take place over several years, as funds for each stage were raised. The overwhelming generosity of area individuals and businesses, however, enabled completion within months instead of years. Platte Valley Medical Center donated funds for the purchase of a modern computer and communication system. This equipment is crucial, because communication, record keeping and patient care are now almost entirely computer-based, and patient privacy must be assured.
As Ben Martinez said at the opening “To all of you who contributed to the clinic, I just want to say this: your gift helped make this part of the world a better place for the ones who live here and those who are yet to come.”
