Radiology has a new, 80-slice scanner, and has updated its existing 64-slice scanner. During installation, an 8-slice mobile scanner was in place for a month. Among other benefits to the new and the updated scanner is a monitor which shows patients animated demonstrations of how to breathe during procedures as well as various protocols for technicians. The radiation dose emitted by both scanners is extremely low, enabling us to select either scanner for procedures, though cardiac scanning will be done on the 64-slice unit. Staff is thrilled with the new technology, and Radiology Director Karen Swanson states that PVMC is very lucky to have such advanced equipment to better serve patients.
