Stretch, Strengthen, and Balance Your Body
Pilates was developed nearly a century ago by Joseph Pilates in Germany. His approach to connecting the body and mind through an effective exercise program is challenging and fun. Pilates involves stretching and strengthening muscles together in a functional manner, rather than isolating muscle groups and potentially creating a muscle imbalance. It is an efficient form of exercise as maximum results are achieved by performing only a few repetitions of each movement. Pilates is also accessible and easy to practice anywhere, as your body is the only necessary equipment. Exercises can be modified from beginner to advanced levels. Results of performing Pilates exercises include increased flexibility and balance, improved strength of the abdominals, shoulders and hips, and better overall posture. Clients report feeling taller, developing long, lean muscles, and leaving class invigorated and refreshed.
Starting June 4th, PVMC will offer two weekly Pilates mat classes taught by Karen Vizyak, licensed PT and certified Pilates instructor. Classes will be held in the conference center on Tuesday evenings, 5:45-6:30 (new day and time!) and Thursday evenings, 5:15-6:00. Ten class punch cards may be purchased for $80, and a drop-in class costs $9. To register and purchase classes, please stop by the Physical Medicine Department in Suite 130 of the medical office building.
