In an effort to grow and expand women’s services, Platte Valley Medical Center is pleased to announce several exciting developments that will soon position the hospital for future growth while meeting the needs of our emerging community.
On September 1, we will:
- Restructure call coverage and begin a Deck-Doc Program on our Labor and Delivery Unit. This ensures a dedicated provider is available 24/7 to support and assist private physicians, nursing staff, midlevel caregivers, and patients. Deck Doctors, also referred to as laborists, will be available to immediately respond to obstetric and gynecologic emergencies within the hospital; they can monitor tracing strips, perform triage, deliveries and C-sections, and quickly facilitate the transfer of patients when needed. Coverage will be provided by a specialized team of labor and delivery physicians, including the familiar faces of Stacey Hennesy, M.D. and Anna Kelly, M.D. This restructure will increase patient safety and satisfaction in the clinics by reducing appointment cancellations and delays while also helping ensure patients see the same provider at every visit.
- Open Harmony Women’s Health Center on our Brighton campus. Harmony will become an amenity-rich, comprehensive obstetric and high-level gynecologic surgery clinic within a brand new spa-like and modern location. The providers will be Denise Slusher, M.D., Angela Baja-Cataranicchia, M.D. and Oralee Ekberg, D.O. To learn more, call 303-498-3440 or visit www.harmony-women.com.
- Welcome New Horizons OB/GYN clinic to our community. New Horizons will open at 30 South 20th Avenue (within the Audrey Farley Women’s Center). New Horizons OB/GYN clinic will have particular expertise in serving Medicaid patients and will be staffed by OB/GYN Maureen Fleming, M.D., along with midwife Ashleigh Schliffer, CNM. Operated by Salud Family Health Centers, New Horizons will specialize in culturally competent care for all patients; all staff will be bilingual. To learn more, call 303-655-6180 or visit www.saludclinic.org.
These announcements coincide with a decision made by Alcott Women’s Center on August 1, 2017. In a letter mailed to patients, Alcott announced it would no longer operate clinics in Brighton and Reunion as of August 31. Alcott is encouraging patients to continue care with providers at Harmony Women’s Health Center or New Horizons. All Alcott providers have newly-established roles, with the exception of Kathryn Hoch, M.D. who will reach out to patients when she has joined a new practice.
